“War Room” brings in the bad guys.

Police in the Western Cape have set up a specialised police unit knows as the “War room” which co-ordinates investigations into hijackings and robberies.

Within 24 hours last week, 65 suspects were arrested in operations co-ordinated by the war room. And in the first 11 days it was operational, 266 suspects were nabbed.

According to the Cape Times, the police say operations by the four-month-old project are far better co-ordinated and information about suspects is spreading between stations around the province faster, making investigative and administrative work easier, with more arrests resulting.

On Sunday, a number of police station representatives praised the advantages of the new strategy.

Arthur Minnaar, the Mowbray police station's spokesperson, said: "It's definitely an excellent thing. It's focusing on the more serious crimes such as hijackings and robberies. Within an hour of arresting a suspect, their details are sent to the war room in town.

"The suspect's name and details then get circulated to all stations. All the detectives get informed about who has been arrested and can then check if they've been arrested before."

He said this was how police officers were managing to link suspects to a number of crimes.

Well the success of t6he “war room” proves one thing – specialised police units deliver results.

Pity the Government thinks otherwise despite the results. Just take a look at the closure of the Family Violence Units, the Commandos, the Narcotics Bureau, and of course, the Scorpions.

DA spokesperson on safety and security Dianne Kohler Barnard said that there is an “obvious desirability of having a concentration of skills and expertise, resource-allocation and information-gathering dedicated to specific crimes, as opposed to a situation where skills, expertise and resources are scattered thinly over a broadly-defined crime prevention mandate.”

Why can’t the Government just realise that the ‘proof is in the pudding’ and reinstate all specialised units?

Then again, can pigs fly?

The only reason the ANC is scrapping these units is because they weild too much success in capturing the criminals, which are either, in the case of the scorpions, members of the anc, and in other cases, voters of the ANC.

In any case, the courts and prisons cant house any more criminals!

Pity- because with the scrapping of the Family violence units, it is the children of the country that suffer and grow up to be criminals themselves, not knowing any better.

It is pretty obvious that by concentrating skills, we will be able to catch more criminals. That is why doctors are specialised. A brain surgeon, isnt a specialist in cancer for example, and why should he be, he should deal with specific cases that deal with brains and have all the knowledge that goes with it.

80% of crimes are drug related yet the Government saw it fit to close down the narcotics unit. We have a problem with organised crime ie. ATM bombings, and terrible corruption, yet the government saw it fit to close down the scorpions. We have some of the worst abuse cases and stats in the world, yet the government saw it fit to close down the successful FSC's.

Are they trying to make this a hell hole to live in?

The less the ANC educate us, help us, etc the more we will rely on them.

The DA plan is commendable and every citizen should be convinced of its urgent implementation (other than the perpetrators who take full advantage of the current crime crisis level). However the message needs to get into the mass ANC voter nodes and it is suggested that the DA do this via an airborne flier drop in every remote informal settlement and other concentrations of persons who do not necessarily read or get the news.
